Communities across Kentucky are mourning the tragic loss of John Powell, Patricia Bick, Garnett Isbell, and Anthony Smith, who all died during severe flash flooding that swept through parts of the state between June 26 and June 27.
According to officials, the devastating weather event brought torrential rainfall that caused rapid flooding across several counties, overwhelming homes, roads, and low-lying areas. Emergency crews carried out multiple rescue operations as conditions quickly became life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed that three of the victims—57-year-old John Powell, 51-year-old Patricia Bick, and 73-year-old Garnett Isbell—lost their lives in Madison County. Powell and Bick were found inside a residence that had become submerged by rising floodwaters before rescuers could reach them. Garnett Isbell also died as a result of the severe flooding, though specific details surrounding the incident have not been fully released.
The fourth victim, 60-year-old Anthony Smith, died in Jackson County. Officials stated that while his death occurred in an automobile accident, it has been classified as flood-related due to the hazardous conditions caused by the severe weather.
Emergency responders, including local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and rescue teams, worked tirelessly throughout the crisis to assist stranded residents and conduct water rescues.
